When our students graduate and move on with life, we rarely ever get to see them again. It is a good fortune if we happen to bump into them in the mall, movies, etc. We know they're out there, and it's only a matter of time when we meet them again. During my lunch break a few days ago, I stopped over at an AAA-Office to become a member. As I entered the building, far from a distance someone sitting at a computer at the front office maintained a steady gaze with me trying hard to recall my familiar face. Of course I looked hither and thither until I got to the front desk ... "You're from Sai BAYA's computer program, huh?" out came the voice. He shot up from his seat, as I affirmed his remark, not knowing who this person was. Then he said "I'm Reggie, remember me, you were my teacher." I paused for a while to think Yes of course it occurred to me that Reggie was our former student - how could I forget? Reggie was huge, loud, and sat at the back of the class. As we exchanged pleasant words having met after so long, Reggie threw his hands up in the air and exclaimed, "See man, you guys taught me computers, and look now I work at a computer all day Thanks to you guys I have a job". Reggie enthusiastically introduced me to his colleagues as his teacher I was really a TA though. Reggie now works at the AAA-office in Hayward, California. He assisted me with information on how I can become an AAA-member. Now it was Reggie who was serving me as his client. I was happily amazed at this uncertainty. Reggie wanted me to convey his greetings and Thanks to all the TAs and teachers. The Bay Area Young Adults (BAYA) have been blessed with the opportunity to provide free computer literacy training to the needy public for the past 2½-years. When our graduates begin new careers or return to their careers with the confidence to put into use their newly learned desktop skills, we know that our work has found meaning.
